36? makes pop-punk-neo-jazz-fusion soul music from heaven and hell. 36? makes ballroom dancing music for the disco. 36? makes stupid idiotic music for dogs and fish. 36? makes music that makes you cry and then stabs you in the back. 36? makes music that gives you the finger after buying you ice cream. 36? makes music that comes from the heart even when the heart feels nothing. 36? makes whatever feels right at the time.
Are you intrigued? Then light some scented candles, throw on Milk Mountain, lay down on the floor with some Doritos and paint your best friends face. Or, do something else completely weird and ridiculous. Or, do nothing. I have come to realize that the happiest that I have ever been is when I say fuck the rules and do whatever I want. That’s what I think everyone should do, and that’s what 36? is all about.
Get ready to shred an avalanche of whiskey on a bobsled made of rock and roll. Straight out of Calgary Alberta, All Hands on Jane have been warming hearts across Canada since 2011. Prolific exporters of tuned-in grunge fury and serpentine licks; here’s your invitation to the sweaty, pseudo-sludge blues party.
Calgary, Alberta’s The Ashley Hundred are a psychedelic rock band without boundaries or burdens. Five collaborators from disparate musical upbringing, piling competing sonic ideas onto scampering melodies in a dense forest of harmonic idiosyncrasy.
The Ashley Hundred began in 2012 as a group of friends experimenting with sound. Soon, acoustic guitars gave way to synthesizers, one EP became two, and in January 2016 at a sold out show at the Palomino in Calgary, AB, they realized how far they had come. Now, the band has released their debut full length album and completed three tours across Canada. They were the first recipients of the Prophet’s of Music Mentorship Program and were nominated for Rock Song of the Year at the 2018 YYC Music Awards. They have performed at Junofest, Sound//Off Summit, Canadian Music Week and opened for The Elwins and Reuben and the Dark.
Bella White is a Calgary-based acoustic roots musician. She grew up around bluegrass and old-time music, and it was very clear to her at a young age that she wanted to play. She has cultivated a sound drawing influences from country, bluegrass, old-time music. Her debut album, The Trails That You Made will be released in the spring of 2019.
What makes Cheer special? Of course they have classic influences we all love like The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Sabbath, Deep Purple and more; sure they have bad-ass phasers, flangers, and Boss DD-3s, but what really makes them special? The secret lies in their utter commitment to attention to detail. Subtle tone settings and refreshing chord choices mix in with progressive-rock time signatures. They’ve managed to bring in some more modern Australian influenced sounds (Tame Impala, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard) to the mix as well to refresh our palette, and make some new and relevant entries into the prog-psych-pop genre.
Their shared proclivity for classic jams, gritty, raw, blues, modern production, timings and songwriting brought them together into a 3-piece ensemble churning out jubilant 5 to 8 minute journeys that travel up to 1974 and sound reminiscent of albums like Islands and Atom Heart Mother without straying into the pompous and overblown realm of later era prog.
D-Day Lewis is a Calgary based hard rock jam band with an obscure psychedelic undercurrent. An underground band gaining attention by bonding head banging with the will to be weird. Comprised of Hans Grossman, Trevor Condon, Matt Cookson and Nephi Bisgaard, their sound features mind branding guitar riffs driven by a blitz fury rhythm section. Electric, eclectic and energetic, D-Day Lewis injects a little madness into their method.
Dendrons is comprised of mostly childhood friends. Friends who after more than a decade of living in different states, came back together by chance in Chicago, Illinois USA to share another creative outlet. The project was formed in early 2018.
Recently, Dendrons was described by an Arkansas radio station as a “33 piece, weirdo, diarrhea orchestra.” But nowadays they usually perform as a core four piece, with occasional guest members.

Dendrons is a Chicago post-punk, noise pop, post-post music ensemble. Spearheading the Friends of Order collective. Dendrons’ self-produced sound is equally reflected in their analog photographic and visual design work as well. They are currently mixing their debut record with engineer Matt Labozza (PALM, Palberta) in Brooklyn, NYC.
Dr Space (Ben Pearson) is an extraterrestrial groove overlord sent to this planet as an emissary of the universal council of Intergalactic Funk! His mission here on earth is peaceful… He’s come to free yo funky mind!! Through the collective powers of all things soulful, funky & downright nasty he fights to eradicate the corruptive influences of the anti-groove syndicate… and to stimulate the planetary groove-bone! Representing every star-system from the ice-moon caverns of Funk-tropolis to the sweat-drippin booties of Groova-Tron IV! Come on board the Space Machine… it ain’t nothing but a party ya’ll!

Future Womb is the brainchild of multi-instrumentalist and multidisciplinary Calgary artist, Mikaela Cochrane & collaborators Jordan Moe (guitar), Michael De Souza (bass), and Andrew Ellergodt (drums).
Future Womb’s genre-defying sound takes you to an island far beyond space and time; Mikaela’s honest and vulnerable lyrics tug at your heart strings, while a darker shade of psych pop rocks you through your existential crisis. Their debut full-length album BABYGIRLGALACTIC was released in April 2019 with Mikaela’s brother and mentor, Taylor Cochrane (36?, Jason Famous & Le Fame, Fuck Boy), as producer.
When Ride the Sky members, Kyle Green and Jared Tailfeathers both acquired banjos in the summer of 2016, they began to delve into the world of bluegrass and folk and The Green Tailfeathers was born. The Green Tailfeathers tell bluesy, banjo driven tunes about love, war, mythology, everyday life and death. Kyle and Jared met at Alberta College of Art and Design in the winter of 2011 and knew the passion to write all kinds of music together was strong. The Green Tailfeathers are in the process of producing an album.
Handmade tries to create an approachable atmosphere by blending pop aspects from indie, psych, R’n’B and jazz for almost everyone to experience something new. After a dear friends’ world fell apart Connor Mead decided to make music to express true sympathy when words didn’t seem enough. Music can be a powerful tool for sharing one’s thoughts and true feelings; that is what Handmade challenges to dive into.
The Hermitess is the solo project of songwriter and harpist Jennifer Crighton, who comes by way of various other musical incarnations, including The Consonant C and Devonian Gardens. Stripping back the performance to a harp and a circle of women’s voices, the Hermitess is an inquisitive, contrary, wounded, wise and ever dreaming incantation.
J Blissette has been making music since 2016, his music comprised of punk influences and 12-string jangle rubbing up against post-punk nervousness and singer-songwriter ambition. Wrap that in an aesthetic that goes from Vegas to Honolulu through Joshua Tree, and you’ve got a sprawling, eclectic debut record paired with a razor sharp, unrelenting live rock and roll act. For fans of Television and the Buzzcocks, J Blissette isn’t afraid to draw blood or spill pineapple juice.
John has gotten himself lost out among the gently rippling tide of the reservoir. There he floats on his back with eyes closed against a warm sun. Red light filtering through slowly dissolves the weighty concerns of introspection. The outer world creeps in. Chickadees stutter, voices ring from shore, distant cars let out tireless sighs. John’s slowly circling body yields to the current of the moment. A faint vibration enters his feet and swells to his throat. Passerby stop at the sight of a sweet melody sailing to shore on a feather bed of guitars. Turning towards the reservoir, even the most tightly wound soul lulls into a sense of ease and asks itself “why am I not out there?” Land dwellers know John as Bennett Mitchell, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter who employs all the instruments under his hands, (guitar, bass, drums, keyboards), to build jazz inspired grooves and drug inspired (not really) soundscapes worthy of standing up to his pure and flexible voice. At once fluid but danceable, adventurous yet relatable, John Lost and the Cause creates a world that pleases body, mind and soul.
Jory Kinjo grew up in Calgary playing old-school soul music with Mocking Shadows. He joined the band in 1999 and in the last 20 years with the Shadows, has warmed the stage for Canadian 3 tours with B.B. King and toured with other artists such as ZZ Top and Buddy Guy.
In 2007, Kinjo went to Europe playing bass for Montreal’s third-wave ska kings, the Planet Smashers. The Smashers were touring with punk legends Bad Religion and headlining other festivals. This experience ignited a love for ska & reggae and inspired a new direction in his music. Since his foray into Jamaican rock and roll, Kinjo has worked with such acts as Fishbone, the English Beat, the Dirty Heads, the Aggrolites, and Ziggy Marley.
From 2015-2018, Kinjo relocated part time to the East Village in New York City. He performed solo along the east coast and played and subbed in NYC ska bands, the Slackers and the Rocksteady 7.
His love of all roots music is brought together in a varied and enjoyable groove based show with his music consisting of elements of reggae, ska, funk, soul and blues.
Kurt Loewen is a songwriter and multi instrumentalist currently residing in Calgary, Alberta. He has spent much of his career in music writing, performing and traveling with The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra. His debut solo record, Heavy & Low, is a collection of songs about relationships; love, change, and moving on. A sonically disparate album compared to previous projects, Heavy & Low is a candid and frank offering speaking to the challenges and beauty in the connections we hold close.
Lashes is a group of four multi-faceted individuals questioning and challenging the social standards of the Calgary music scene. Inspired by groups such as the Runaways and The Cranberries, they’ve been described as high energy alternative, dream rock, and grunge.
From Calgary Alberta, Little Lamb has an eclectic style, ranging from psychedelic folk to hard rock. An ambient trip driven by wandering bass lines, cosmic guitar riffs and three part vocal harmonies.

Mark Mills is a one-man boy band from Calgary, Alberta.
Forged in the liquor fuelled pandemonium that is New Year’s Eve. The Moonsnakes, are born in the year 2019. Hailing from Calgary, AB the band brings listeners the groove and palpable suede of the Bahamas. Imparting the pure rock gain of the Hip, and all the while lulling you into a far off trance state like you’ve never known.

Recently signing with “Electric Honey Records” they have been busy bonding and writing, really doing whatever snakes do. The group is currently making head way in the studio crafting their first EP “Taste Of The Moon” set to release sometime this summer.

Mountain Sound Brigade is a large ensemble roots-rock band that combines an instrumentally driven rock sound with the songwriting and heritage sound of the western frontier. The group contains six primary members featuring guitar, keyboards and banjo but frequently collaborates live with guest members to enrich and diversify their sound and create a unique experience for the audience as well as the band.
Contemporary music lovers that listen to artists such as Jack White, The Dead South or Nathaniel Rateliff will want to add Mountain Sound Brigade to their playlists just as much as of fans of legendary classic rock bands will be looking to give Mountain Sound Brigade a spot in their vinyl collections. Their first EP, “Dog House Demos”, is available through Bandcamp and online streaming services.
Nebular Wave is the refined result of late night jams, early morning freak outs, and mid day improvisations. A haze has fallen over us. Hope has turned to dejection. Cracks and wrinkles form as time marches onward. Finally, as a bleak moment tries to set into your head, something new, yet familiar starts pulsating from the distance, bleeding into the soundscape like water colours. You are compelled toward it, pulled by light and harmony. The fog clears. You come to realize you are not alone, and that, in the end, music will save us all. You are a Robot Worker, and the world needs you now more than ever.
Snake River formed in 2014, and has released five full-length LPs, two singles and contributed to a number of compilations, and has toured Canada multiple times. The band’s most recent album, TREAD ON TO THE UNKNOWN YOU (2018) is an excursion into previously undiscovered sonic territory for the group. Like previous albums, TREAD ON… is set in the fictional town of Snake River Mountain, and features characters that listeners of the band will recognize. The album features contributions by members of Radiation Flowers, Shooting Guns and Basic Nature. The guitars are twangy, grinding and jangling, and the album gets darker and heavier than previous works (like an acid journey through a dark desert), but also is full of light and a certain hopefulness that there is something better than any current situation. The album reached #13 on the national Earshot! charts, and has had songs licensed by APTN and Sportsnet.
Dripping with sensuality, fuzz covered grunge guitar and the infectious familiarity of 60’s rock-soul, the Torchettes combine their angelic and emphatic vocal tones to create a sound somehow ahead of and behind its time. Think Amy Winehouse backed by the Blackhearts, Wanda Jackson fronting Hole; and you’ve still only scratched the surface of what this melodic trio can accomplish.
Among the raw energy of their punk rock sensibilities lies a deeper carnal instinct, one matched with a notable understanding of composition, harmonies and delivery.
Fronted by powerhouse vocalist and music history aficionado Deicha Carter, the Torchettes inception was one she had been constructing for years before they hit the stage. Inspired by the swagger of The Supremes and post-grunge, blues and R&B; she constructed a group and sound unlike any other.
While forward in lyrical approach, a performance from the Torchettes can feel like a gathering of the occult, strangely bewitching and hypnotic, and altogether understated in its power. Amid the rumbling of their contagious energy and dynamic, The Tortchettes have found an altogether magical formula of mayhem and melodic genius – one sure to captivate and transfix for years to come.
The Wheel facilitates an elaborate and colorful conversation between their instruments within the delicate and subtly complex nature of their songs. This is music presented with psychedelic sincerity through means of folk roots and rock n’ roll. With elements of sounds reminiscent to Ween, The Grateful Dead, Neil Young, and a zest of Sonic Youth when they really get into it, The Wheel thrives in expressive tonal communication.
Fronted by songwriter Patrick Whitten, the group is formed of some long time favorite faces in the Calgary music community including members of The Bitterweed Draw, Copperhead, Shuffalo, Lasercake, and the short-lived Feeler.
